Hkeylocalmachine Software Clients Mail Default Program Associations
Hey, i have tried the included email app that is integrated into windows 10 and today i tryed with another one called eM Mail Client. Allthough, the in the Default programs setting itțs changed to whatever email app i whant to use, i cannot rightclick a file>send to>email. A popup window appears that tells me that i have to select the email app in the Default Programs. I allready did that.
Oct 20, 2017 - One of our clients recently brought that challenge to us, and it was caused by an incorrect Group Policy. In Windows 7 and later the mailto association is no longer set. First, with the windows Mail app i thought it was a bug because of the somehow limited functionality of the app, but now, i see it doesn't work even with a more complex app. It's very annoing that i allwais have to open a different window and i have to search for the file i whant to attach to an email and then drag it to the compose message window:(. I am having the same problem and I have reported it twice to Microsoft Chat Support and no one seems to acknowledge it is now a well known issue and I asked the Chat Agent, Christopher M. To forward the issue to the Microsoft Windows 10 Mail App development team but he did not say yes or no whether he would do so. I'm willing to bet that the payed office suite works smoothly without any issues. Unfortunately i cannot say for sure because i don't whant to use the suite atm. Hello Andrei, I can confirm that the Outlook email client works perfect in Windows 10 when sending a file as an email attachment. Just like you, I do not want to use Office Suite (or Outlook Mail).
I am using LibreOffice for my suite of office support programs. The reason I know Outlook works perfect is that when I bought my new computer in July 2016, it came pre-installed with the Office Suite, including of course, Outlook Mail. When I tried to send a file using the 'Sent to. Mail recipient' protocol the Outlook Mail Client loaded the email perfectly and was ready to send the file attachment; however, it then popped up with a dialog box asking me to try Office 365 for Trial Period, or Buy it, or enter a Product Key. I dismissed the box and then the Outlook Client crashed and the email was not sent (no surprise there!). Anyway, Microsoft does seem to be sidestepping the issue. I was told by the first Chat Support Agent that this issue is known and that performing an In-Place Upgrade would resolve the issue.
She was wrong! I suspect that the Windows 10 Mail App is not coded to handle the file attachment protocol that you and I want to use. I don't see anything in the Windows Registry that would show any errors.

There is a solution to the problem, but it requires installing Mozilla Thunderbird email client which is a free fully functional email program. Then you can setup your email accounts and send your files as attachments without any problems.
